A topic, that is a bit controversial, that has been troubling me recently is racism. More specifically, organizations and networks like BET on television, or the Black Student Alliance, African Student Association, Black Organization Striving for Success (although I do applaud them on the acronym they created with that one), and other clubs of this sort. Why do blacks feel the need to separate themselves? Why can't the club be "Students Striving for Success"? Why do they have to set entry requirement based on their skin color? I would enjoy joining a club along the lines of striving for success, but since I'm white, guess what, I don't meet the prerequisites. And you know what aspect of this that pisses me off the most? The fact that if I wanted to start a club and title it "White Students Striving for Success" I would be shot down SO quickly. It probably wouldn't even be looked at. Why? Because people I'm faintly related to and have never met in my life did something to people you're related to a long time ago. Ah, I see. That's fair.
In regards to BET (Black Entertainment Television) I want to know WHY? I can assure you that it has been a goal to incorporate all races/genders/ages into modern American sitcoms and movies. If you watch a show on Disney channel it probably has a main character then they have two best friends. Main character is Maria, best friend is Jamal, and second best friend is Lucy. They encompass it all so everyone has that person to relate to. Now, BET, why do you feel you have to have such tunnel vision? What makes the black race so special that they can claim a television station as their own. Again, if I started a network called White Entertainment Television, I'm almost positive I'd be shot. You can attempt to make the argument that all of television is "White Entertainment Television", but you'd be making that argument out of ignorance. Why? Refer back a couple of sentences.
I recently read an article on BET's website that is written in retaliation about another article that is about how "constantly talking about race is pointless." The entire BET article is bullshit. I'm sorry. The author's stance is completely ironic. They want the topic of racism to be constant and ongoing. And because of people like this, it will be. Don't worry your pretty little head about it because in your "fight for equal rights" you are just separating yourselves more. If you want to read more up on the article, click here.

ReplyDeleteLike a BOSS takes on a whole new level of awesome.
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, I agree 110%. Affirmative Action was useful for its time, but it has long since expired and so should these idiots clamoring around shouting "equality, equality, equality!" I assure you, if we started a White Entertainment Channel it would cause endless controversy for being "racist". Three cheers for double standards! Fucking hypocrites.
