Funnies

A few humorous things that have recently happen in my day to day life.

First: I'm sure most of you by now have gone to see Paranormal Activity 3. It has been out for 5 days now and it's definitely the peak of conversation in my classes. I went and saw it last night and to say the least... I couldn't sleep. I kept waking up every hour... by the grace of God I didn't wake up at 3am. I would have just gone completely insane. But I did wake up around 4ish and am laying in my bed contemplating how the demon in my room is about to torture me. Suddenly, my roommate starts talking in her sleep. Shit hit the wall, I'm practically rocking back and forth in my bed staring at her from across the room deciding how I am going to exercise this demon out of her. She stops talking so I just lay my head on my pillow and keep and eye on her, well both eyes because they're both wide open. I did finally fall asleep though. She'd better stop that talking nonsense though or I really might strangle her... to protect her from herself of course.

Secondly: I would just like to address the human way of laughing your way out of embarrassment or pain. I saw these two idiot girls riding on one skateboard today and naturally they fell. Then they tried to laugh it off! It drives me crazy I'm like.. "You know that hurt just shake it off and get back to life." But to hide their embarrassment they rolled around on the cement laughing. I personally feel that would be more embarrassing but what ever. Just laugh the pain away....

Thirdly and Finally: Awhile back I posted little signs that have different ab workouts etc. around my half of the room to encourage me to work out a little more. They make such nice decorations.

Happy Wednesday

All Natur-ale

I have been thinking about it and for the past 6 years I have been obsessed with my hair. I have bought a $120 appliance to change it on a day to day basis. I have damaged my hair really beyond repair doing so as well. I have been programmed by society that curly hair is nappy and just not pretty. Well guess what, fuck you society because I'm wearing my hair natural 95% of the time now. It has taken me this long to realize that I can have curly hair and be pretty at the same time. And it makes me sad when I think back to waking up so early to try to please people that I never see now.

"The Bible" By: Human R. Us

For the past couple of years of my life I've been interanally battling with different things in the bible and beliefs in the Christian religion. I am very loose in nature so to be restricted by a book written 2k years ago was sometimes frustrating and confusing to me. So, here is my take on things.
Man loves control. Not men, although that is also true, but mankind. We love to have control and place rules on anything that we feel is not living the way we believe they should. So when God gave us this book of love we turned it into a book that talks of being cast away to burning pits of fire and having to fear a big god that is looming over us at all times. In these times nobody besides the priest were literate and could write so it would be VERY easy, almost too easy, to alter God's word to us with a flick of the wrist. From this point on Christians lived in fear and bounds of someone that would ask you to sacrafice your own child (Abraham and Issac) or await the day that beasts will rise from the sea (Revelations), and if you live wrong... it's off to the firey pit of hell for you.
Personally, the God that I know and talk to would never ask anything so awful of me. God is my maker and my friend and yes I do respect him and have that "fear" like I would have for my parents but not an actual heart of fear that makes me scared of him. Christians these days say "fear the Lord! He is almighty and can do anything at his will! But he is your loving best friend and forgiving." What the hell? This is so contrdictory to me. I cannot even fathom my best friend being this awful scary being they talk about.
If Christiany had been presented as a love relationship and not a book of rules, then I believe that so many more people would be not only willing but anxious to know this God! Why rules? Why do we have to have a set of rules to live by? Here is my rule: Love. That's all. Love God, love people. People these days preach that yet they still judge and resist people different than them. Their words do not align with their actions.
So a people a long time ago altered the bible and we are being just as silly by how we interpret it. The best way I can think to describe this would be Amelia Bedelia. If you do not know Amelia Bedelia she is a fictional childbook character that takes everything literally. "Draw the curtains" she draws an actually picture of the curtains. "Dress the turkey" she literally puts clothes on the turkey. Silly stuff like that. You recognize this as silly though you do not recognize that you do the same. The bible is a book. It is bound and reprinted all over the world and has fantastic morals and messages but we take the stories literally. I'm just waiting for someone to go plant some seeds in rocky soil or good soil and determine their life from that. They're meant to be stories. They are meant to guide you to right decisions of love. I look at the bible like I look at Frog and Toad books. A story with a message than I can abstractly apply to my life.

Don't be Amelia Bedelia and live biblically. Be like God and just live.

The Chore of Praise & Worship

So at churches I've come to realize I give off a very bad vibe during their worship time. Praise and Worship has never been enjoyable for me and it is not because of the actual worship itself! I'm all for that definitely. I've nothing against God (me and that dude are actually pretty good pals) or anything against church.. okay I take that one back. But I absolutely hate church music. I hate it. It's not my style of music at all so I have a really hard time enjoying it. I've put in a little video to listen to while you read this so you kinda understand where I am coming from...
All of the songs sound the same to me. I enjoy hymns more than I enjoy this stuff. The message is great and that's not what I am getting at, it is literally the music. I know you will probably say "Well you should be able to praise God no matter what..." and you're right. So I do, but with unique bands that don't make me want to kill myself. Here are a few that I listen to that have great religions undertones and just plain good morals in their songs.
-The Avett Brothers
A lot of their songs mentions God, mention giving thanks, and all together just encourage to live right. "Teach me how to use the love that people say you made." A lot of people take that lyric a different way.. But God made love. So that's how I take it.

-Mumford and Sons
They talk a lot about a "maker" and "creator" and recognizing everything that maker/creator has done in nature and in you. "You can understand dependence when you know the maker's hand."

-Brand New
They very bluntly show Christian morals especially in their album The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me. In their song The Archers Bows Have Broken they actually confront two-faced Christians "beating everyone with a book that book tells you to love." Good message. They also have a song called Jesus Christ and is him reaching out and asking questions like a fresh believer would.

-Manchester Orchestra
Andy Hull, the lead singer, was actually raised by a minister and had really strict music restrictions growing up so he had an edge to his music for sure.. but his childhood religion still lingers in his lyrics. He has an entire song dedicated to the second coming. They also have a song called Where Have You Been that he is very clearly talking about the Lord. It is more of a bitter song when he asks "God, where have you been?" but does hold the religious undertone nonetheless.

So, for all of you bitter towards Praise and Worship like me.. check out these bands. They are great bands and you don't have to worry about your soul deteriorating. And for all you Christian pricks that say these aren't Christian bands... you're right. But I bet God loves their music as much as I do!

WANTED: Asshole

So I was running pretty late to class this morning. I did the typical "accidentally press the dismiss instead of the snooze button." Anyways I get outside to find my bike and race to my class... and sure enough my bike isn't where I left it. I check the other bike racks but I remember specifically where I put it last time, and some dickface stole it. So I'm just pissed.. I'm walking (not sure if I could even call it walking) to class all upset and just mad. Then, a kid rides past me on what I am 98% positive is my bike.

What I know about this kid: I always see him around smoking. He has unkept hair past his shoulders and the most important thing I know about him.... I have never seen his sorry ass riding that bike. If my memory serves right I've seen him on one of those trick bikes. But if he had the same bike as me I would remember....

So, I sprint after his ass and either I'm out of shape or he starts pedaling faster because I'm pretty sure I chased him for a at least an 800. I am shouting "HEY, HEY STOP" you would think he would get the hint but he doesn't so I just tackle him. Then I look at his bike lock and it's different than mine... of course. I would have moved on with my life if when I looked at his lock he hadn't said "See, I have this one." Almost like... "Haha you bitch I'm not a complete idiot."

The most upsetting part is why did he steal MY bike? The person who actually paid for it herself. The person who can't afford another one. Yeah, I'm having a pity party, I've earned it okay.

All I have to say is I'm going to be a prick and tell the police. But until that point he had better hope I don't see him because I might start a poke war with him.

The Handbook to Moving Into College

I moved into my first dorm room about two months ago and through that I have learned little things that every college student living on campus needs but never thinks about getting before they get here. I have provided a couple of things that you don't realize you need until you get here and realize... well damn.

A power strip. This is probably the most important thing because they definitely do not supply these dorms with a) enough outlets and b) outlets in the places you need them. Not to mention... this pig outlet is awesome. Who wouldn't want to plug into a power pig?

A fan. Seriously, this place is either a ice box or hell. Most likely the latter. And if my roommate didn't have the fan she did.. I would not have been able to sleep. For the first couple of weeks it was so ungodly hot in our dorm that without that fan, I might have melted. Literally.

Cork Squares: I'm not sure if it is like this everywhere, but my dorm doesn't come with a cork board and since you can't pin anything to the walls... you're kinda in a pickle. So these cork squares (triangles, circles, heptagons, whatever shape your heart desires) are pretty handy. They stick to the wall with small adhesive squares and make pinning stuff really easy. The ones I have are 15x15 I think. Since they are separate you can put them anywhere, make designs on the wall.. be creative. Or be like me and just stick random squares in convenient pinning locations.

Plastic Ware: You might hate me for this because it's not "cute" or "homelike" but I do not encourage you to get actual utensils or dishes. I bought a bowl and some silverware etc... and it is a bitch to clean. It's not like you have a dishwasher. I guess if you're really serious about having plates and dishes then get some dish soap, sponges, and a drying rack. OR, you can be simple and just buy a 99cent pack of plastic silverware and disposable dishes. I mean, you have a meal plan so you;ll rarely eat an actual meal in your room anyways unless it's leftovers. If you do eat it's most likely finger snacks... just trust me.

I hope all of you found this helpful, and if you didn't then... well FUC...   .. kidding.

Those Damn UV Rays

I recently read an article about how California has made it illegal for minors to use a tanning bed. The legislature says that the bill is intended to "improve the health and well-being of Californians."
I can definitely see where they are coming from, but I feel that California is making a decision with a lack of research and complete understanding of the pros that come along with tanning.
Obviously if you tan excessively for a long period of time the you are putting yourself in a risky situation. I worked in a tanning salon for two years and women that had been tanning for 20 years, every day, looked terrible. Their skin was leather, dark, ad just nasty. I could argue that it would be the same story if they worked outside for 20 years everyday... but I will leave that argument be.

Anyways, it has been proven that tanning:

-Puts people in a better mood. Gotta love that Vitamin D.

-Reduces risk of serious sunburn, which could do much worse damage. It's true, as ironically as it sounds. If you are planning on going on a cruise or outdoor adventure soon where you are likely to be burned, it would be a HEALTHY choice to tan a couple times a week for a month or so to lessen that potential second degree burn.

-Helps with aches and sores in the muscles. Tanning warms the muscles up and relieves serious stiffness. Doctors will sometimes actually tell their patients they should consider temporarily tanning to help with aches.

-Helps skin conditions like acne and rashes. Anyone who has tanned can probably say that their acne lightened up a bit after a couple times in the tanning bed. As for skin rashes, I actually had a doctor tell me about 2 years ago that I should tan about 2 times a week so my skin would go back to normal. IT HELPS. And it did.

I am not advocating tanning to tan. People that have memberships for years at a time are definitely putting themselves in harms way, but tanning should not be made illegal to anyone, even minors. I got that awful rash when I was 16. If it has been illegal for me to tan, it would have taken probably months (until summer arrived) for it to go away. The tanning salon I worked at anybody under the age of 18 needed a parents signature, and anyone under 16 needed the parents supervision with every tan.
It's not all bad for you. Just don't be stupid.

For The Stoners

So the legalization of marijuana is a very common argument in the nation. Here in Texas I don't ever see it becoming legal, ever. I can see Texas removing itself from the U.S. and becoming its own sovereign nation before ever legalizing pot... or gay marriage... or anything else involving freedom. So this is more of a spill of wishful thinking instead of getting my hopes up.

Have you ever seen a drunk person? Like just completely plastered. I just typed into Google "shitfaced" and here you go... a fantastic picture of a completely sober guy just taking a nap. By completely sober I definitely mean totally wasted past the point of functioning. I probably didn't need to put in a picture because I'm sure we've all seen it, but it made me laugh.
If alcohol is legal to buy and sell, then weed should be too. There are so many more negatives to alcohol than positives. The positive, of course is HAVING AN AWESOME TIME. The negative would clearly be it makes a person violent, puts holes in ones liver, kills brain cells, and has an addictive nature hence... ding ding ding Alcoholics. There are also many reported deaths by alcohol poisoning.

On the contrary, there has not been one single reported death from smoking pot. Not one. It also does not kill brain cells. That has been proven to be a myth. It does not cause lung cancer like cigarettes. I'm not advocating everyone to become stoners but if alcohol is legal (especially those DAMN four locos) then why would weed ever not be?

It honestly makes no sense. My friend Joseph recently told me that the whole reason pot was ever really made illegal was because in the 1800s America wanted to discourage Mexican migrant farmers from finding work, or stealing jobs from whites. Funny how that worked out, eh?

Happy Tuesday!

OctoberFirst

So I was recently informed that I need to begin studying for my Public Speaking class because I have a mid-term test coming up this next Friday. The first thought that ran through my head was, "What kind of questions could I possibly be asked for a public speaking test?" and another one was "Why aren't we public speaking for our test?" Guess it's just me but that just makes sense. Instead we have a very long multiple choice test. And I can bet that every single one of those questions are going to be broad, far fetched, and bullshit. One of the titles of the chapters is "Democratic Citizenship." That relates... I guess.

On a less gripping note, my parents are visiting me today! I am very excited to see my biological friends but I am not very excited for the events ASU has planned for our little day. I would much rather just go to lunch, talk, go out in the town, etc. Instead we are going to be playing little games like Minute To Win It and watching magic shows. Sigh. But having my parents here will be nice. My little niece was going to come too this weekend! And as I was in the bookstore looking at little baby pink ASU Ram shirts (awwwww) Mom called saying she was no longer coming. It was a very sad moment for me and my little pink shirt.

Anyways, have a good weekend. As Ellen would say, "Be kind to one another."
Happy Saturday.
